It's a harrowing journey at times, but the ending is hopeful. Past traumas are described mentioning blood but no other gore. The self-harm events are not glorified, and the plot involves the protagonist's efforts to cope and eventually to stop altogether. To Cass making friends with Paris, a girl from the mental hospital with bipolar. Author's note explains the real basis for finding the root trauma and learning how to cope.
An employer asks someone to make a delivery if he's not already too drunk. She thinks a lot and says the wrong things. Plus it doesn't always block out the swearing, so I found the inconsistency made my eyeball twitch. Many references to classical literature. It seriously needed tightening.
We're powerless against so much, and sometimes there's no closure or justice, so we just have to cling to the people close to us. And I think it's one of the best mental illness books I've ever read in a long time.
Or so the beginning tells us. But I really wanted it to work out for them. It's letter-style, but it also has lists and transcripts of conversations and some funky formatting occasionally bestillmybeatingheart. Your purchase helps us remain independent and ad-free. Descriptions of self-harm with some detail but no gore, such as injecting self with epinephrine that isn't needed, walking hard into walls, hitting yourself hard.
The best friend is missing and feared dead. Hooking up mentioned a couple of times. Blood on a tiled floor mentioned several times. Minor or background characters occasionally smoke. This is probably the most awkward romance ever.
